The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party 2014

The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party was a huge success this year, with some of the world’s top celebs turning up last Tuesday in London. With Champagne, Pimm’s and Martini’s all round, the night looked like incredible fun. Even Pharrell Williams turned up and did a set! Naturally, of course, the first thing we did here at THAC was check out the hair. Here are a few of our favourites!

Cara Delevingne wore a stunning Mulberry dress and her hair was perfect! Swept up in a messy, chic ponytail, she looked like the ultimate rocky model. This updo is simple and easy, and also looks lovely for those with dip-dyed hair!

Kiera Knightley looked beautiful in a multi-coloured asymmetrical dress with a beaded bodice and floral appliqué skirt, which, no surprise, is Chanel. Her hair was perfect for the midsummer occasion as it was worn in loose curls. As well as her hair, her makeup was kept simple and natural, leaving all attention on her haute-couture dress. We love it!

Gemma Arterton and Naomi Campbell stunned everyone with bright red, although we much prefer Gemma’s look for this summer evening event as Naomi’s is very full on. Gemma wore a beautiful Prabal Gurung Resort 2015 two piece outfit whilst Naomi wore a Givenchy Pre-Fall 2014 full sequinned dress. However, both of their hairstyles are right on trend. Gemma had a lovely, simple, round brush blow dry whilst Naomi had a wild crimp put her in hair.

The 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards

Yesterday was the CFDA Fashion Awards in Lincoln Center, New York City. The high-end event hosted some of hollywoods most prestigious actresses and performers. Here are a few of THAC’s favourite styles!

Lupita Nyong’o looked gorgeous at yesterday’s awards in a Suno Fall 2014 striped cropped top and matching trousers. She paired her daring look with a pair of Sophia Webster ‘Coco’ red satin heels and no jewellery. Her hair was kept simple and swept back, allowing her outfit to be the main attraction. We also love her matching make up, as it subtly echoed her outfit.

Emmy Rossum looked gorgeous in a mossy green J. Mendel Fall 2014 sleeveless, silk-chiffon gown featuring a black beaded sheer tulle. The ‘Shameless’ actress also perfectly styled her hair in a delicate braided up do. The hair style was a lovely accessory to the stunning dress as it didn’t draw the attention away for it.

Sophia Bush wore a stunning Marchesa cream long-sleeved laser-cut-out dress enhanced with crystal embroidery from the Fall 2014 collection. But what truly made this look was Sophia’s faux-bob. After curling her hair, it was pinned up underneath itself to create a bob-like effect! Sophia just goes to show anyone can pull off an elegant bob, and a bit of red lipstick! We love it!

The Met Ball 2014 by THAC’s Art Director, Louise Wood

Wowser what a red carpet of hot hair this year at the Met Ball 2014. We saw  anti-red-carpet tresses taking the centre stage at this fashion fest event, and the ‘cleb’s’ didn’t fail to impress. So here’s my low down on what THAC thought was hot hair….

The Braidy Bunch!

We love this new trend stealing it’s way onto the  red carpet, and these cool gals really rocked the braid at this years Met. First we have Kristen Stewart sporting a messy fish tail braid, with just the right amount of dishevellment that keeps it more rock chick edgy, and less Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairies… we also dig the low side part.image

image

Joan Smalls also opted for a braid, a side braid casually slung over her shoulder, with a low side part. This was not deconstructed, but still looked fabulous. Not sure  on that lipstick though Joan….

image

And last but not least the lovely Emma Stone, who, like Kristen opted for soft and undone, but also opted to have a side braid. Look out this week as we will be posting ‘How To’s’ for creating your own gorgeous undone braid.

image

Undone Waves

So Alexa Chung dons her signature style, and looks great, as does Katie Holmes (we’ll forgiver her dress choice!), in a word effortless, and ultra cool.

image

image

On first sight, we thought ‘oh no Taylor Swift, not another vintage wave’… but stop, no, on closer inspection, yay, she has edged out, and those ends are straight - praise be! Top Tip: It’s far more on-trend to leave those ends out when curling your tresses these days girls….

image

Only Rhianna can get away with this 80s Madonna-esque, curly top bundle, but with the high neck of her gown, and her diamond choker, this works beautifully, weirdly.

image

Sleek

Wet look was all over the runway for this year, and the clebs never fail to disappoint, bringing it bang onto the red carpet. Starting with the beautiful Beyonce, who opted for netting as an accessory.  Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst, and one of our red carpet favourite, Amy Adams also opted for the sleek up do.

image

image

image

This is becoming one of Amy’s signature red carpet looks, but it looks so sophisticated, and old Hollywood, we can’t help but love….

image

Not many women can pull off a sleek middle part do, but Rosie Huntington Whitely can, we also love the clothes styling…

image

image

Victoria can’t resist a little bouffant in her crown, and who can blame her, it’s a great look, and a little softer than Rosie’s head hugging hair, we’re also loving that subtle, but noticeable, wave in the bottom. Nicely done!

image

Rita Ora rocked a wet look bob, which we cared for….

The Up Do

image

Kendra opted for a very sleek, classic French pleat (above), whilst Michelle Lea opted for an undone version, we love the statement earrings with this up do.

image

Marion Cotillard opted for a side roll which we fell in love with.

image

Clare Danes also opted for a side swept up do, much less structured than Marion’s, with a little wave thrown in for face-framing softness.

image

image

What to say about SJP's up do.  Words fail us, but as she is one of our fashion heroes, and we truly love her, we can only say that, hell, she get's away with what no-one else can. Let us know your thoughts.

Old Time Glamour

Jessica Alba does vintage so well, and this is classy elegance at it’s best.

image

image

image

We are loving Diane Kruger's vintage roll, (minus the little bobby pin we can see poking out, oops!) Stark, but stunning! Cate Blanchett has been seen wearing a similar look at recent red carpet events, and the bottom line is, that both ladies have immensely stunning bone structures, and therefore look beautiful with these pared down updos. We envy, and salute them.

Side Swept Part

image

Blake Lively does the Hollywood thing really well, and though we are tiring of these perfect curls, this is a gorgeous example that complimented her gown beautifully. She had one of the best gowns of the night in our opinion.

image

Chanel Oman also managed vintage with charm, adding a side accessory that screamed jazz age, but looked gorgeous. Again statement earrings which we’re loving.

image

And from our side of the pond, does the girl do us proud or what? Our Cara rocked a beautiful side swept do with added accessories, and we salute the fact that she kept it rock & roll by wearing trousers. We have a new girl crush!

Let’s Get Shorty!

These girls are all growing our their little gamine crops (sad, but maybe it is time for a change) and have made stunning style choices with their grown out tresses.

image

Anne Hathaway does a little side swept number….

image

Charlize Theron goes all quiffy…

image

and Karlie Kloss makes her little bob look long….clever!

imageWe’re sad that Michelle Williams has grown out her crop, it was a fave, but we know how bored girls can get, but this bob could have been made more of we feel, maybe a dishevelled wave, or more wet look like Rita’s. There is no denying though her blonde is exquisite on her skin tone.

So that’s my low down on this year’s Met Ball. Hope you enjoy, and please l post your thoughts on our blogs. If you like or loathe, we’d love to hear what you think too…
